VoiceMap is looking for a dynamic content producer to work with our community of publishers on the production and distribution of self-guided audio tours. The successful candidate will be expected to bring new publishers onto the platform and see their tours through each step of production into promotion and distribution. They will also need to help with day-to-day admin, assist with growing our social media presence, and offer technical support to VoiceMap’s users.
About VoiceMap
VoiceMap is a fast-growing mobile app, publishing platform and marketplace for self-guided audio tours. Over the last ten years, we’ve worked on thousands of walks, cycles, drives and boat trips in over 60 countries across the world. We plan to offer thousands more and, in the process, give people an easy, engaging way to see the world around them from new, surprising, and sometimes challenging perspectives.
Working Arrangements
We work from a coworking space in Cape Town two to three days a week, and the rest of the week remotely. You’ll require your own transportation when working in the office.
The Role
- Reviewing the scripts our tour publishers submit and editing them to ensure that they meet VoiceMap’s standards. This includes polishing up clumsy sentences and a thoughtful, detailed approach to logistics and giving directions, but it’s most important that you think through the moving parts of the experience and take responsibility for how well the tour comes together in the end.
- Working with individual publishers continuously. This might start before they create a tour, with their questions about our process and business model, and it’ll continue through mapping, script editing and audio recordings into promoting their tours successfully. Our best tour editors build long-lasting relationships with journalists, tour guides, bloggers, podcasters, and passionate locals around the world who produce tours on their own time.
- Providing help to our social media team from identifying short stories in tours for short reels to copywriting/editing the captions that go along with our social media posts and sharing content across our platforms. You may also be required to source and put together marketing resources and assist tour publishers with how to best market their tours on the ground.
- Identifying potential contributors, emailing them information about VoiceMap and answering questions they might have about the platform, often over a video call. This is a small but important part of how you’ll spend your time. If it sounds too much like sales, this probably isn’t the job for you.
- Helping our Head of Content shepherd large projects, in multiple languages, through the process of translation and recording with contractors both local and foreign.
- Testing our apps and publishing tool and providing feedback in clear, reproducible steps.
- Adding tours to resellers and keeping our reseller inventory up to date. This includes copywriting and image selection to match how each reseller displays our products and, occasionally, the laborious job of updating hundreds of products. You’ll need to help assess the success of products and identify where improvements can be made.
- Helping customers whenever they’re in need and answering their questions. This is often via email but sometimes includes phone, our web chatbox and other channels including our reseller platforms.
- Learning how to use new tools and technology wherever this might help to improve efficiency or the experience we deliver for partners and users.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of three years of professional experience in media production of some kind. Writing, audio and video production are all acceptable.
- An excellent ability to communicate in written English. Our team works remotely, so you’ll also need to communicate clearly with our team and publishers over Slack and by email.
- Proven familiarity with basic work apps. We use Google Workspace – so Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc. – but these are enough like MS Word and Excel for you to switch over easily. You’ll also need to pick up new tools quickly.
- A preference for setting your own priorities and an ability to stay organised. You’ll have to keep on top of a number of routine tasks while also working on more sporadic projects.
- Your own laptop and smartphone
Advantageous
- Social media marketing experience.
- An excellent sense of direction. (There’s a test.)
- A second language. (Or third, etc.)
- Experience living overseas.
- Proficient copywriting skills.
- Experience in sales or customer service.
- Experience with SEO.
- Demonstrated analytical ability, especially working with data.
