Head of Product Operations

Job Types: Full Time
Job Locations: Cape Town

VoiceMap is looking for a curious, resourceful Head of Product Operations who has a passion for travel and tech. This is a role for someone who thrives on providing the operational infrastructure a growing company needs – from managing projects to designing systems for data collection and analysis, to embracing how AI is changing the way small teams work.

About VoiceMap

VoiceMap is a global leader in the emerging market for self-guided audio tours, with walks, cycles, drives and boat trips in over 80 countries. These are produced using our content management system, Mapmaker, which combines editorial support with a unique process that has given us a reputation for quality. Our apps for iOS and Android have thousands of five-star reviews, as do the tours themselves, and we plan to offer ten times as many of them, all with a focus on giving people easy, engaging ways to see the world around them from new, surprising, and sometimes challenging perspectives.

Working Arrangements

This is a full-time, hybrid position, working two days a week at our offices in Cape Town, South Africa, and the rest of the week remotely. We work out of Workshop 17 at the V&A Waterfront.

The Role

You will work closely with the CEO, providing the operational infrastructure that helps VoiceMap execute on its strategy. This might mean managing our product development pipeline, building dashboards that help the team understand performance, or designing processes that keep complex projects on track as requirements evolve. The through-line is ensuring that strategic priorities translate into work that gets done—on time, to spec, and with clear visibility for everyone involved.

In a small team, the best data infrastructure is one that empowers everyone to find their own answers. You’ll work with our developers to maintain and improve our ecommerce and mobile app analytics, making these accessible and understandable to non-technical team members. You should be as comfortable building dashboards and processes as you are rolling up your sleeves to solve a thorny attribution problem. We’re also looking for someone who embraces that ways in which AI is changing how companies like ours operate and can use LLMs like Claude to analyse data, automate reporting, and generate insights.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Designing systems for data collection and analysis that enable the team to self-serve insights, reducing dependency on any single person.
  • Working with our developers to maintain and improve our ecommerce and mobile app analytics, making these accessible and understandable to non-technical team members.
  • Using AI tools to automate routine analysis and generate insights tied to key business outcomes.
  • Managing our product development pipeline across iOS, Android, and Web – translating requirements into clear briefs for developers and ensuring quality before releases ship.
  • Keeping execution tied to strategy, even when new learnings lead to iteration on initial requirements.

You’ll know you’re succeeding when projects ship on time, the team can answer their own data questions, and the work we’re doing clearly connects to the goals we’ve set.

Required Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in project management, product management, operations in a relevant industry, or business analytics – ideally in a role where you’ve worn different hats and owned outcomes end-to-end.
  • Experience with project management for small, nimble teams – using tools and approaches appropriate to scale, not enterprise frameworks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience designing systems for data collection and reporting.
  • Demonstrated use of AI tools to accurately and reliably analyse data and share insights with stakeholders.
  • Comfort keeping execution aligned with strategy when priorities shift or new information emerges.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Beneficial Experience

  • Experience managing software or product development pipelines. You don’t need to code, but you should be able to communicate requirements clearly and understand lean startup principles around knowing when something is good enough to ship.
  • An understanding of user acquisition – how mobile app growth is tied to a funnel with different channels and conversion rates that need continuous optimisation.
  • Mobile app analytics or digital marketing attribution experience.
  • Experience with analytics platforms like GA4, Amplitude, or similar.
  • Experience with CRMs for B2C businesses, especially where they’re used to improve customer lifetime value.
  • Experience with two-sided marketplaces or platform businesses.
  • Experience in the travel industry, mobile apps, or a startup environment.
  • Experience living and working overseas – VoiceMap has partners and customers across the globe.
